If you need people with the skills for your workplace you should consider employing an Australian Apprentice.
An Australian Apprentice will learn while they work with you and they will also receive formal training relevant to your industry. This is done through a Training Contract agreed between you and your apprentice. The Training Contract details the legal obligations for you and your apprentice, during the Australian Apprenticeship.
Australian Apprenticeships can be completed full-time or part-time, or even while people are still at school. More than 500 occupations across Australia employ Australian Apprentices in traditional trades as well as emerging careers. For more information visit www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au.
Between 1 December 2009 and 28 February 2010, the Australian Government will provide a $3,350 Apprentice Kickstart Bonus to employers who take on a young person aged 19 years and under into a traditional trade Australian Apprenticeship. The introduction of the Apprentice Kickstart Bonus represents a tripling of Government support for employers of eligible Australian Apprentices in their first year of an Australian Apprenticeship.

The Australian Apprenticeship Access Program (Access Program) is a free service that can link you with people who are job ready, motivated to work in your industry and who have pre-vocational training.
Access Program Particpants already have teamwork skills, time management and organisation skills, and are trained in occupational health and safety as well as essential technical or specific skills.
With the Access Program, you and your employee get support from your local Access Program Provider during the first 13 weeks of the Australian Apprenticeship, to help you both settle into the working relationship.

From 1 March 2010, Disability Employment Services will be delivered by a network of organisations around Australia. Disability Employment Services providers will work with you to develop an individual program that focuses on your strengths and abilities; and the barriers you face in getting a job. The Productive Ageing Package aims to harness the skills and experiences of older Australians through provisions of training and support for mature age workers and job seekers. It will support those mature age workers who wish to remain in the workforce and support skills transfer to younger workers. Indigenous Cadetship Support (ICS) is part of the Australian Government's Indigenous Employment Program (IEP). ICS links Indigenous tertiary students with employers through a cadetship arrangement involving full-time study and work placements. The Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP) provides language, literacy and numeracy training for eligible job seekers aged 15–64. It helps people whose skills are below the level necessary to secure sustainable employment or to pursue further education and training. The program is available nationally through face to face training or distance education with eligible job seekers are entitled to up to 800 hours of free training.
